5.Can you tell the difference in both the pictures?
Ans .In picture (1), a boy is pulling the bucket from well without using pulley while in the second picture, a pulley is being used to pull the bucket full of water.

6.Which would be easier-using the pulley or not using it to lift things?
Ans .Lifting a thing using a pulley is easier.

7.Look around you-where all do you see the use of pulleys? List them.
Ans .I saw such pulleys at construction sites for hoisting flags, and for lifting heavy things with ease, in general.

Ans. A cement bridge is wide, strong and durable compared to a bamboo bridge.

2.How many people do you think can cross the bridge at one time?
Ans .More than 20 people can cross such a bridge as shown in the picture, at a time.

3.If you had a chance, which bridge would you like to use? Why?
Ans. I would like to use a bridge made of cement, as it is more safe and easy to cross and walk on.

4.Do you have to cross any bridge on the way to your school? If yes, what is the bridge like?
Ans. There is no bridge on the way to my school. But I cross many cement bridges in my city.

5.Find out from your grandparents, what kinds of bridges were there when they were young.
Ans. Only-a few bridges made of bamboo or wood were left, when my grandparents were young. Most of the bridges at that time also were made of cement.
Is there any bridge near your house? Find out more about the bridge.

6.Where is the bridge-over water, over a road, between two mountains or anywhere else .
Ans. The bridge is over water.

7.Who all use the bridge? Is it by people on foot, or also vehicles and animals?
Ans. The bridge is made of cement and steel girders, so, it is used by all, i.e by people
on foot, vehicles and animals.

8.Does the bridge seem to be old or is it new?
Ans. The bridge is not very old.

9.Find out what materials are used in making this bridge. List them.
Ans. Cement, stone chips, bitumen, iron girders, concrete, bricks, sand, iron rods pillars, and piles were used to make the bridge.

10.Draw a picture of the bridge in your notebook. Do not forget to draw the train, vehicles, animals or people who cross the bridge?

Ans .Yes, I have seen other kinds of boat. They were larger and there were small rooms on them.

2.Can you think of other ways by which we can travel on water?

1.Have you ever sat in a camel-cart or horse-carriage (tonga)?
Ans .Yes I sat in a horse-carriage (tonga).

2.Where? Did you climb on it yourself, or did someone help you?
Ans. I sat in a tonga while going to my grandpa’s home. My uncle helped me to climb on tonga.

3.How did you feel riding in the cart?
Ans. I enjoyed the horse-carriage ride very much.

1.Do you have bullock-carts where you live?
Ans. No, there are no bullock-carts in my area. But I have seen them at other places
and on TV, etc.

Ans .They have wheels made of wood with iron rims.

Ans. Yes, I can.

Ans .About 100 children come on bicycles to our school.

Jugad—What a Vehicle
1.Do you have such vehicles in your area?
Ans. No, this type of vehicles are not in my area, but other type of Jugad vehicles are there in my area.

2.What do you call this in your area?
Ans .We call them Diesel pump set Cart.

3.Would you like to ride in something like this? Why?
Ans. Yes, I like to ride in something like this, because that would be great fun.

4.Can you tell why is it called jugad?
Ans. Because it is made by putting together parts from different vehicles and machines i.e., tyres, engine, wooden parts from different things.

Children Cross the Jungle
1.Have you ever been in a thick jungle or any such place?
Ans. Yes, I have been in a thick jungle, while I went to visit a National Park with my parents.

2.Write your experiences in your notebook ?
Ans .A jungle is a large area full of small and large trees. There are so many animals, and birds that live in a jungle. Once I lost way in a forest.Moving on the Snow

3.Have you ever seen so much snow? Where? In films or anywhere else?
Ans .Yes, I have seen so much snow. I saw it on the Discovery channel on TV.

4.Do you think that such places have snow all the time? Why?
Ans .Yes, such places have snow most of the time, because they are situated at high altitude from the sea level

1.Do you face any difficulty on the way to your school?
Ans .No, I do not face any difficulty on the way to my school.

2.Which is the best month, in which you like to go to school? Why?
Ans .In the month of April. As there is no cold or rain in this month and it is not too hot.
See Me Walk
Go to a ground or an open space with your friends. Act the way you will walk in these situations.
(a) The ground is made of soft and smooth rose petals.
(b) The ground is covered with thorns and there is tall grass on the side.
(c) The ground is covered with snow.

3.Was there a difference in the way you walked each time?
Ans .I experienced different types of feelings when I walked through different types of grounds.
(а) By walking on the ground which is made soft and smooth rose petals, I felt very nice. It gave the feel of walking on a soft carpet.
(b) Walking on the ground covered with thorns and tall grass is very difficult, I had to be more cautious while walking, and it was painful.
(c) I walked with small steps and with more attention, as the ground covered with snow is slippery

Talk About It
1.Do you also have punishment in your school? What kind?
Ans .Yes, we have punishment in my school. One has to keep standing up on the desk for the whole period or one has to keep standing with face towards the wall.

2.Do you think that punishment should be there in schools?
Ans. I think there should be no punishment in schools.

3.Is punishment the only solution to misdeeds? Make some rules for school to prevent misdeeds.
Ans. No, punishment is not the only solution to misdeeds. Students should be asked not to commit any misdeeds and they should be rewarded for good behaviour. Additional points should be allotted in exam for their good activity.

4.Draw a picture of your ‘dream school’ in your notebook and write about it.
Ans. My dream school has a very good building. That should be situated at a calm place. A hilly area would be the best.

In that school there should be no punishment.
Teachers should love their students. They should encourage the students to take more interest in studies. A school should have a good library, a playground and a good arrangement for drinking water and toilets.
